I was curious about the general policy on fandom-based original characters, or characters that have (relatively) very little screentime and have most of their background and such filled in by headcanon. I'm considering applying with a Vehicon (on this journal, in fact) and wanted to make sure what the policy with these sorts of characters is before I send in an application.
Hi! I have a small question. The chars arrive with the weapons they had in them when they were in their world? The char I want to app is a medieval-fighter and wears an armor, a shield, a small sword and an a bow.
Just something that occurred to me during the last AC, and since there was a recent edit to other Mod processes recently (i.e the application process)...
Would it perhaps be easier on the Mod team to ask that, from this point forward, Hiatuses(and Drops, I suppose) be posted on the official Hiatus/Drop post to count towards a missed AC?
An OOC post as well is nice to alert the rest of the general community but I'd imagine it would be way easier for the Mods compiling the AC to just have to check that one post for any and all hiatuses as opposed to trying to slog through the OOC Comm and figure out who hiatused when and whether they're "back" or not?
So are in-game events that affect the larger part of the player base just run by whoever wants to run them regardless of what feedback they're given or do they still need mod/majority approval?
This is just a suggestion, but could we have a final decision on whether or not a player is required to join Plurk to follow goings-on in this game?
It was said previously that other games use Plurk to coordinate events and game business, and while we do have the OOC comm for that here which all players have access to, it seems as though a fair section of players in the game use Plurk for the most part instead and prefer it. However, players that do not use Plurk, or don't know to join Plurk are ending up left out of events and general game updates which is somewhat unfair, especially if they don't know that that's what's going on.
I think a mod team decision on whether all players should also join Plurk (and if they choose not to, with the understanding that they may miss out on information) when they join the game might be a good idea?
Additionally, there was talk a while back about over-hauling how game events are organized and I think this would be really helpful. Perhaps when an idea for an event comes up, whoever is running it (whether it be a player, or the mods, or a mixed group of some kind) should submit a summary as well as a time-table for how the event will play out that is available to all the players in the game? That way all players can reference when an event has started, and when it should have/has ended (which has caused a lot of confusion in the past) as well as get an idea for what to expect throughout the event.
A form letter/proposal kind of format might work especially well for this, and I'd be happy to make one up if the Mod team thinks this would be a good idea.
Some users had concerns about making their plurk timelines known or making their handles obvious outside of who they want on it. We respect their choice to have privacy, and were advocating a move to plotting on the OOC board. As this seems to have been ignored and a failed initiative, we feel it might be best to leave it down to a vote and make it very clear one or the other is a necessity.
If you have any other ideas on a communication place that is not somewhat exclusive or harder to access - like the labocabana chatroom was - we'd love to hear it, but it seems to boil down to those two options for now.
You're right though in that we need to implement and move with this faster than we have, and thank you profusely for helping it be more on the immediate agenda. We also apologize for the delay in response.
Aaah, I get that side of it. I can definitely understand why people wouldn't want their off-site/non-DW account names or timelines to be completely known to everyone.
Putting it to an ultimate vote might be the best idea, but so far as suggestions go I really only have two. The first is the general "Game business should be done on the game's comms, particularly the OOC comm" as that community is accessible by absolutely all players in the game and even new players have immediate membership and access to all prior and upcoming plots so that they know what's going on.
However, I understand that not everyone wants to use the OOC comms for plots and that the threads get buried easily and/or forgotten, and previous other reasons that were all pretty good points. Perhaps if there was a way to create a plotting community or plot box, similar to the meme community or a the posts made on Plurk, that everybody has "Tracked" so that they know when people are looking for plots?
Honestly, the only other suggestion I can think of would be to make an Ink City plotting Plurk and have membership to Plurk highly encouraged upon joining the game (although I'm certain this will have its own set of drawbacks). If players wish to keep their own timelines and handles private then perhaps they can simply create a second Plurk that they use purely for IC purposes? ...Similar to multiple AIM accounts, I suppose.
I'm not sure that any of these solutions would make everybody happy (and again, that's understandable) or even completely fix the problem, but they're the only suggestions I can think of off-hand. ^^ And you're welcome! No worries about the delay either! I just was hoping I hadn't accidentally hurt anyone's feelings, because I definitely was not trying to be critical. Just suggest something I'd noticed. Either way though, thanks and I hope a decision can be reached swiftly and that everybody is, or most everyone is, alright with.
I'm not directing this at anyone and I realize I've griped about this before, but I really would like if there was an Event suggestion thread available for everyone to use on the front page of the game or someplace similar?
Because I'm feeling as if the past 3 game-wide events were all initiated, and then planned for the most part, on Plurk, and again, I realize I've complained about this before (just up-thread in fact, almost exactly a month ago) but it is really starting to work on my nerves that if someone has an idea for an event, or if someone wants to plan things with people for an event (before it even starts), they need a Plurk to have a chance. So only players with Plurks get to run their game ideas and by the time a planning post for an event is put up, it feels like most everybody has already sorted out their CR on Plurk.
It's just...really not fair, because there are other players here who might have ideas for events or want to CR with other people but they get shut out. Just...I mean, if all players need Plurk to actively be involved in this game, especially to have a say in Events that are held and how they play out, than that really really really needs to be out-right stated at this point.
