The Mayor of Ink City and the Ink Monsters

The Mayor of Ink City
The commanding force behind Ink City’s existence is a sentient blob of ink who simply refers to himself as the The Mayor. He is a personification of both the creative and sadistic sides of writers/artists. As the maintainer of the City’s reality; he is a dangerous force to be reckoned with.
The Mayor is not necessarily good at his job, he often allows glitches in the City to occur, and fails to keep an eye on all of the civilians. Despite this, he keeps a high opinion of himself to the point of god-like status. He’s egotistical, uncaring, and doesn’t like to be disregarded or underestimated. And yet in contrast to his dictator authority, he tries his best to make Ink City mimic a natural society and world. His powers work in big and small ways in an attempt to make the world aesthetically pleasing- there are 4 seasons, day and night switch normally, and the entire terrain has been created by himself. He can be considered in charge of the “background” of the world.

He also has a vague understanding of why he was created to make Ink City, and why everyone is being plucked from distant worlds. He understands everything beyond the 4th wall, to an extent. He doesn’t question the powers at work, he merely complies with their whims and fulfills his function. It’s through his help that characters and their homes are being brought here, but he’s unable to control who stays and who goes in the City without the aid of these “Greater Powers beyond the 4th Wall”. Despite the fact that he’s merely existing to do a job, The Mayor genuinely enjoys it. He finds every character to be endlessly intriguing and entertaining. He’s not very good at keeping secrets about the City’s inner workings, partially out of pride and partially out of an impulsive inability to keep his mouth shut.
The Mayor may be a creature of absolute power, but he’s a slave to the City as well.

The Ink Monsters
Essentially a body without a soul or flesh, the Ink Monsters are just what they sound like- unsettling creatures made purely of ink that only vaguely resemble humanoid shapes. They’re powered by instinct and thoughtless emotion, but can be controlled by the will of the Mayor. Their bodies are black and constantly dripping, punctuated by hollow white eyes. When they’re provoked, they attack with claws and bite with misshapen, fanged maws.  If left unprovoked, they won’t attack, and are generally rather tame, but uncomfortably curious. They’ll move in closely around travellers in the woods and examine them, watching from a safe distance.

The Ink Monsters can primarily be found deep in the Woods, but can occasionally be found in other places.
